Homes and planning in Kent
Kent's houses are often larger and detached or semi-detached, which suits hip-to-gable lofts and generous rear or side extensions, but Green Belt and conservation-area rules can limit size and design.
Sevenoaks District Council says 93% of its district is Green Belt, where extensions are limited to 50% above the original floorspace in total. Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone have town-centre conservation areas, and Rainham, Gillingham and Rochester are all handled by Medway Council. We check the rules for your address first.
